just had an urge to write stuff cuz life been changing muchos as my li'l girl caitlyn get's older n older. this past week, i've been thinking and reflecting on life as a dad. think about this (me talking to myself): when my dad was my age, i was 7 years old, in 2nd grade, just having moved to great neck, new york on long island. i think i was a good kid - a bit naughty, but probably very family oriented. my dad was probably like me - working my butt off to provide for the family. i remember he took the LIE (Long Island Expressway) train everyday into the city, worked hard all day, LIE back home prolly bout 6pm everyday, came home and spent time w/us kiddies. he taught me how to catch, as in play catcher in baseball. he taught me tennis. i didn't care much about golf. he got me a bike sometime later, and taught me how to conquer my fears of riding that monster (i LOVE how this process is depicted in calvin n hobbes!). he also taught me the meaning of money. i remember back in those days, we used to go to the US Open (tennis grand slam tourney) in flushing meadows every year. while there, my brother and i would have the best time of our lives - running around the grounds, searching out players, and get autographs for our official autograph book. at the end of the day, when we went home, my dad would make us write a page on our day, reflect on how privileged (for lack of a better word) i am for such opportunities. it stuck with me as i got older - where i was taught u never get anything for free. however, that changed 20 years later, when i learned that for me - God's grace is free; BUT, it was definitely paid for by the blood of Jesus Christ. so maybe my dad wasn't joking... nothing is free. and everything is a blessing.
that's my li'l girl now. she was just over 1 at the time of this pic... and 16 months now. she's the joy of my life, and the reason i HATE to leave the house in the morning. but anyway - just wanted to write about something that was stuck on my mind. i love my dad and am so happy he spent so much time with me. it's how i wanna be. i can't wait to those days when caitlyn looks forward to me coming home so that i can play with her!!!! maybe i can convince her to be a golfer n we can play rounds together! well - at least i can dream!
