introspection

the past couple of days, i've been thinking hard about a buddy of mine who just got divorced (or is now in the process). if ever there was a couple whom i thot was 'the perfect' couple it was them. (i wonder if he even visits my site anymore... if so - hi, and know that i'm praying for you!). i mean - he was my college roommie... she was in my chinese class... we all tried hard to 'hook them up' when we were in school. and hook them up we did! and now, suddenly, the bomb drops. i'm not even sure the reason - except that one party just seemed to "not feel the same anymore"... it was extrememly shocking stuff - and if ever there was a time to say that "it completely came out of right field", this was it. i can't get this outta my mind. when i was in b-school, they always took me in every 3rd w/end or so when i'd drive up to san jose to visit. we've always shared great laughter, great fun, and very good friendship. a group of us even went down to houston to visit her family, and play golf, and cook out (with crawdads too! ewwww).

so yeah - it's just strange. it made me think about the confidence i get through my relationship with God. i know it goes beyond confidence. God pieces life together. God gives me purpose - and that is to please him. this is not to say that christians don't go thru divorces, or that all christian couples live extremely happy, feel-good, leave-it-to-beaver lives. no - it's far from it. it's the human element that gets in the way. whether it be pride, immaturity, naivity, lack of faith, whatever.

it's just difficult to see friends go through this. i'm going to commit them to prayer, and i'm going to commit to sharing with them the love of God. i just think that too many people, americans in particular, are using divorce as the easy cop-out solution. the vow you take - for better or for worse, in richer or in poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part - what does that mean if you just 'change feelings'? it's too convenient, and it's just not right in my eyes. who knows.. maybe my friends had another issue that they didn't wanna make public? i will always give them the benefit of the doubt cause i know them, and they are extremely generous and sincere people. but you know, i will hold on to the HOPE that there will be reconciliation, and with that, a stronger bond will form.

"therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate"
Mark 10:9
