always a first... but lasts are best!

it's kinda funny how 10 of the last 15 'posts' have been 'drafts'. i think the blogging world is dying a slow death - in favor of immediate gratification thru the so-called social media, preferably in 140 characters or less, including links to other articles, pictures, videos, whatever.

yeah - sometimes when i condense my thoughts to 140 characters, years of english schooling and learning go out the window, writing classes to express thoughts become irrelevant, and expression becomes just, well,... abbreviated.

which leads me now to wanting to just write to my heart's content again. small caps n all!

it's unbelievable how this all happened. all i wanted was to play some ball. to run. to sweat. to give my body some reason to just exert itself. 2 times in 3 weeks. 2nd time - i'm working, and run down to the courts a bit late. 5 mins stretch as per the norm (5 YEARS AGO) and i'm good to go! an hour into the game, we win the first round. 2nd round - i'm just standing at the top of the key, watching the action down low. the drive. the scoop. looks good - so i turn and head back for D. *POP*

down i go, clutching my right heel. i kinda thought i heard it, but mixed in with the intense pain, and the difficulty in processing what just happened, i wasn't so sure i wanted to believe what just happened. this is where it helps and doesn't help to be a sports nut. this injury happens so much to athletes that you kinda know the drill. *POP*, pain, weakness, surgery, SIX TO EIGHT MONTHS! 1 minute after the pop, i know what happened. the consequences will come later, as i sit on the sideline, feeling around for my achilles and feeling nothing. the pain is gone. i think about what is going to happen to me. how inconvenient this is going to be.

i just moved on to a new role. to do a job that i've honestly never officially done before. eyes are on me, and i'm starting in A WEEK. i have no idea how to proceed. it's monday. doctors on tuesday schedule surgery for saturday. 3 nights in hospital. first week at office in my new role is bust. talk about timing. great.

the following week - linnet and the kids are off to shanghai. it's not that i hate them going. it's more that i love my family being around. there's nothing more joyful than coming home from a day's work and seeing linnet. seeing my kids run into my arms. the sound of 'daddy!' 'daddy!' :) i guess only a parent will understand. it must be how God looks at us and is so joyed when we call out to Him. why He is never sick of it. why when i cry out ABBA, Father! - He is more than happy to listen. how He wants this. so 2 weeks without the family is hard enough. i love them so much. 2 weeks of hopping around and being pretty much home-bound is real tough! first day i thought i'd blog. another 'draft'. i've survived. today is the last night. lasts are the best!

so these last 2 weeks have just been a tough time. i've had a near catastrophic incident - and i can only thank God that it didn't lead to another re-injury. i'm only at the beginning of this long journey. next week i hope all is good for my walking boot, although i wont' actually be able to put weight on it for another 2 weeks or so following. 2 crutches for 2 weeks or so, then 1 crutch for God knows how long. maybe 4-6 weeks before i begin some physio. that will last another 2-4 months before i can even begin to think about exercise. total recovery 6-8 months. *sigh*

it hasn't been a great month. it hasn't been a bad month. in the last 2 weeks one of my goals was to blog. i did it. blogged about a first in my life - first real injury, first real surgery (wisdom teeth don't count!). blogged also about lasts. last night before linnet and the kids come home! last night alone! i'll take the last... lasts are best!

have a red letter day!
