presentation & saturdays
i was sitting round the office this sat morning, waiting for our 'training' in presentations to start, glancing thru the papers. today (or yesterday rather) - there was this robbery in shenzhen. big deal i thot.. then i read on.. 2 dozen armed men went to the subway/mtr construction site and STOLE THE ESCALATOR!!!! how in tungcheehwa's armpit does one steal an escalator!?!@#$?!?#$@ they went to the site, and also stole construction tools and materials (these i can understand the value), AND... 6 STEEL PILLARS! ok - so not only did they steal the escaltor, they took 6 steel pillars!!!!! i read a lot of comic books - and not once did i ever read of super villians using the powers to steal an escaltor and steel pillars! i mean... how is it possible??? the article said they also somehow commandeered a crane! then the journalist wrote this as if it were perfectly normal... nothing out of the ordinary.... ho hum news.... kudos to him for maintaining journalistic objectivity in the face of an extreme situation. i, certainly, did not know how to respond. i was laughing when i first read, then upon rereading i was a bit scared that they could do something like that, then re-rereading it, i was just amazed at the croooks - they must have been really smart. then thinking about it - i'm kinda upset that the authorities could allow something of that nature to happen!
anyway - that kinda brought me back into the want to write something... not necessarily about my life, but i guess about others. my life has been so eventful - and i'm just filled with praise for God for making it so. i think one of the highlights has been the start of the young professionals group. we had this all nite prayer meeting at the OLD church office in LKF, and in that, i was given a vision for leading this group. after 7 months or so, it is finally a reality, and i'm so blessed by it. we have a small group that is growing into a tighter fellowship - where we are able so open up and give insights into various struggles/successes as HK businesspeople.
i think the great thing about it is that from this group, there will spring future business leaders in HK. it's not only about building that network of true believers in the marketplace, but also that the encouragement you can draw from knowing that you can do it by following the 'right' path. conventional wisdom (or HK business wisdom) might teach otherwise. however, with a strong heart to serve God FIRST, and all else second, i know that we can be elevated to major positions in this society. i'll be the first person to stand up and say that this is my calling... to go out and be that successful business person for God - and that my ministry is currently exactly where i am.
well - things aren't that rosy... but i think in an ideal world, i wouldn't have to worry about it so much. it's not the goal, or the vision, or the calling. it's the path. the long and winding path. that's where the encouragement of brothers and sisters, all of whom walk that same path, becomes so important.
that said, i'm not even thinking about work these days. i'm thinking about the beaches in bali. the smoothies. the tanning. the diving. the fun and fellowship. i can't wait! less than 3 weeks to go!!!!! after this year, i think i deserve a break!
