yankees-->cowboys-->ducks-->knicks?
i'm back in hk just bout a week, and still somewhat jetlagged. how pathetic is that? i still haven't been able to figure out why my body rejects flying so much... mayhaps i'm gonna have to stress test it and fly like 50k miles in a weeks time and see what happens. i think it's all hypochondriatic...
so much going on in HK - mainly harbor fest and rockit... 2 music extravaganzas at exactly the same time and dates!!!! now how screwed up is that? of course, it's the workings of investhk and the american chamber of commerce, hk... at the risk of being totally out of line - i'm just going to vent a bit here... i find it incredible that this farce called harbor fest was allowed to happen in the first place. first off - the price tag of hk$150million???? knowing full well that if max tix are sold, that only covers hk$70mill - investhk and amcham say ok - the taxpayers pay the rest!!! i mean.. wtf?????? that's the prob - who is running the show here? def not hk'ers! james thompson, the chairman of amcham, should be fired and roasted. i dunno why investhk put it in their hands at all... but it smacks of cronyism. 1) other PROFESSIONAL event managers/marketers offered to do it for free, but amcham still went with a HIGHLY PAID manager; 2) there was no tender or bid allowed for the management of this event; 3) absolutely NO disclosure of what funds were paid and where; 4) it's all americans handling the event (other than investhk); 5) pricing of the tickets pretty much imply that it's an expat/rich person only event... and so on....
why do i even care????... it just bothers me that i have to fund programs like this that are so blatantly anti-hk. i mean - the price is prohibitive to the locals in general - but rather for the expat community. not only that - but they purposely did it just to compete with Rockit - which was already slotted for this time frame. i mean - that just shows how much james thompson and his american crony a*#$(@#$sses care about HK. i mean - granted it might be different demographic, but the fact is that they took away attention from a local production, which was geared towards providing fun in the sun for the masses. so while we are all probably paying for the harborfest bill to the tune of hk$100mill - i know james' pockets are being lined up real nice from this. in fact, amcham will probably spin some great numbers to show that this was such a success FOR HK! guarantee that will come out in the papers. the reality is... did anyone notice the pictures of the completely EMPTY seats at craig david, supposedly one of the bigger name draws? wat was it... bout 30% full according to the papers? and about 50% last nite for jose carreras and charlotte church? and they dare say that attendance has been satisfactory????? amcham even touted a packed event for prince, but only after they removed 1000 seats!!! so please - i already know that the likes of investhk and amcham already look down upon us locals as incompetent and incapable - but that don't mean you can be this explicit in robbing us and our city. we are not under colonial rule anymore peoples!!! WAKE UP!!!!!!
yeah - this is a rant... don't worry... there's more to come! hehehe - the american ambassador to china will be here for luncheon thing - and guarantee, the china yuan issue will come up. can't wait to roast him on that too. even tho i'm american, it's tough continually having to justify american behavior around the world... especially asia policy.
and yeah again - i'm totally not wanting to focus on the piles of work on my desk accumulated from a week of travel... *sigh*
back to the topic of this one... nba league just started. my dai-so (that would be sis-in-law) is already cussin' me out for bring in my big bro again to the league!! this year we all got our us$20 riding on the top 3 places! after having just completed our live online draft, spanning both coasts in the US, korea, hk and singapore.... i have decided that with the likes of pat garrity and darko milicik (who are both gone from my team already) - i will be once again vying for the bottom 3 placements! i can't wait.... season starts in bout a week! wooooohooooooo wat a year so far - the ducks in the stanley cup finals, the yanks in world series, the 'boys holding strong to 1st place in the nfc east... and the knicks???? oh wells - can't win 'em all, eh?
